Matters Of Faith
Scripture Reading – Exodus 5
Key Verse: Isaiah 55:9 – For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
You did something kind for a neighbour, and your gesture was considered self-serving. You put in extra hours on a project at work helping a co-worker in a bind, and others said you were just trying to look good to your boss. It hurts when people misunderstand your intentions. Not only is the good effect lost in the process, but you end up with blame you don’t deserve.
Think about how Moses felt. He was God’s special messenger on a divinely appointed mission of mercy, and the people accused him of trying to make their lives more miserable. They were absolutely wrong, as they would later discover, but in the meantime submissive Moses caught the brunt of their grumbling.
Such misinterpretations often happen in matters of faith. Why? God’s ways do not always make sense in a sinful world. His methods sometimes turn human reasoning on its head or go against popular opinion. And sometimes the benefits or rewards of obedience are delayed or delivered in a way that non-believers cannot recognize.
If others mock you for doing what the Lord says instead of walking in the world’s path, you can stand firm. The true and ultimate victory belongs to Him.
Dear heavenly Father, even though Your ways don’t always make sense to my human reasoning, I know the ultimate victory belongs to You. Let me stand firm in this knowledge and walk Your way instead of the pathways of this sinful world.
Though I have fallen many times, I rise again. I am still here. I am still faithful.
I have two verse that are displayed in my house, both in the same picture-frame…
Exodus 14:14 – “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
and Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God.”
This battle is the Lord’s; always has been, always will be. And He will win it.
You can choose to believe it, and stand with me and wait for God’s ultimate victory, or you can choose not to believe it. I choose to take my faith in what God says to the grave with me. As a wise man (my Dad) always said, “Let God be true, and every man a liar.”
Amen. So be it.
Lord God, I thank You for each and every painful experience I have gone through along this hard road, and I thank You in advance for each new one that will pop up. You have led me through them all, and You will continue to do so, and in the getting through them You change me to become more like You. I thank You Lord, that all good things are worth the wait. I thank You that the bleaker and more helpless and impossible things look, the closer we are to when You step in and miraculously change things. I thank You for Your love for me. Keep speaking to me, Lord, and keep encouraging me and stretching my faith. Thank You Lord Jesus. Amen.
"And sometimes the benefits or rewards of obedience are delayed" - Yes, sometimes they are. The greater the reward, the harder the battle and the longer the wait. Allow me to hear from God, and to choose to believe Him and obey Him, no matter what it costs me. This is my life, this is my path, this is my destiny.
